The Meaning and Cause of Obesity

Foods give a nutrients and calories for our body. They are very useful to make our healthy, but if we eat to much foods, it's stored in our body and make our body is having too much body fat and we may become obese. If someone have weight 20% or more above normal weight, it means this person considered obese.



So, what is obesity and how to measure it?

Obesity is a condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to such an extent that health, maybe negatively affected. Obesity is considered chronic disease like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and etc. The most common measure of obesity is the body mass index or BMI.

Category of BMI are :
underweight BMI is under 18,5
Normal weight BMI is 18,5-25
Overweight BMI is 25-30
and people who have obesity, body mass index or BMI is over 30.

As you know above, we use BMI to measure obesity. The calculation is : body weight (Kg) divide by body height quadrate (M2)



What is obesity causes?

Most researchers agree that a combination of excessive calorie consumption and a sedentary lifestyle are the primary causes of obesity. The other factors are genetic factor; environmental factor; psychological factor; and illness.
